Delhi is the capital city of India and the most intriguing city of this
country. It is not just the most significant political center of India but
also its major commercial hub. There are two parts to this city New Delhi
and Old Delhi. Agra, famous for its Taj Mahal is in close proximity to this
city. You can learn a lot about Indian culture and history by tourism the
city tour. Delhi has a perfect balance of western civilization and Indian
culture. There is an increasing influence of the west on the young
generation of Delhi. There are many places to visit from Delhi as it is one

Red Fort: The prime attraction of Delhi is the Red fort. This historical
monument made by Shah Jahan is well maintained and its interior is as gorgeous
as its exteriors. In the evening, there is a light and sound show in the fort.
Qutub Minar: Qutub Minar is another significant historical relic of
Delhi. It was made by Qutubuddin Aibak of the Slave Dynasty. This monument is
also declared as the World Heritage site by UNESCO. Near the Qutub Minar there
are other significant architectures like Iron Pillar, Quwwat ul-islam Mosque,
Ala-i-Darwaza and Tomb of Imam Zamin.
Humayun’s Tomb: this monument is another UNESCO World Heritage site of
Delhi. It is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun. The garden encompassing
this gallant architecture is well maintained.
Monuments: some of the monuments in Delhi, which are also major tourist
attractions, are Rajghat, India Gate, Rajpath, Indian Gate, Nehru House and
Parliament House.
Lotus Temple: this temple of Delhi is famous for its unique architecture.
Jama Masjid: the Jama Masjid is located near the Red Fort. It is the
largest mosque in India and you can enter this exquisite free of cost. If you
take in a camera with you, you will be charged Rs.200.

Getting Around
Delhi is a very big city and there are various modes of transportations in this
city. Cars, taxis, auto-rickshaws, buses and metro trains in Delhi are the major
traveling options. There are three metro lines in Delhi, yellow, blue and red.
The metros are air conditioned and very comfortable travel in; most importantly
you can avoid the traffic jams in the city. Buses are cheapest mode of transport
but are very crowded and uncomfortable. There are both private blue line buses
and government DTC bus. Taxis are bit expensive way of traveling in Delhi. You
can find the cabs in the taxi stands and also call them via telephone. Now the
tourists can also use the radio taxis which are most comfortable. Auto rickshaws
and cycle- rickshaws are also common ways of traveling in the city.
Getting There
Delhi is the capital of India and the international airport near this city is
Indira Gandhi International Airport. Flights from all over the world come to
this international airport. The only country from where there is bus service to
Delhi is from Nepal. Buses also come to this city other parts of the country.
Delhi is also a major railway junction of India. Trains from all corners of the
country come to this city.
Shopping
Delhi is a shopper’s paradise, as you can find a wide array of things in the
markets and malls of this city. In one hand, there are many western style malls
in this city which have grown in popularity recently and on the other hand there
are old traditional markets or bazzars. Connaught Place in Delhi is the most
important shopping center in the city. Some of the other markets in Delhi are
Palika Bazzar, Janpath, Central Market, Sarojini Market, Chandni Chowk, Karol
Bagh and Khan Market. You can find the good quality apparels in Delhi at cheaper
rate and also handicrafts, books and electronic goods. Some of the popular malls
which have recently come up in Delhi are TDI Mall, Ghaziabad Sahara mall,
Gurgaon City Centre and Rajouri Garden City Walk.
Nightlife
Nightlife in Delhi is mostly restricted to going
to bars or pubs to have a drink or grooving in disco. Most of the good bars
and discos are adjacent to the reputed hotels in the city and these are very
expensive. You can obviously go out for a dinner in one of the many
restaurants around the city. Delhi is not very safe for girls at night. You
can also go to watch a Hindi Film in the evening or go for watching a cultural
programme.
