A valid passport and a visa is an essential requirement for all foreigners visiting Vietnam. Visas are issued by the Vietnamese embassies and consulates in respective countries.

Tourist Visas are also issued by some overseas offices of Vietnamese tourism. Tourist Visas are valid for 30 days and can be extended after arrival in Vietnam. There is a also a provision for double entry visa for tourists making side trips from Vietnam to destinations in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.

Visa fee vary from embassy to embassy. In the visa application fee you are also required to state your intended ports of arrival and departure. The application form should be submitted along with two passport size photographs, your passport and the required fee.

Business Visas are valid for six months and also allow multiple entries to business travelers.

Though most countries need visa to visit Vietnam, but nationals of some countries like Denmark, Finland, Japan, Norway, Sweden, South Korea etc. can stay without visa for up to 15 days. Various passport holders from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines and Laos can stay up to 30 days without the visa.
